Leadership Training

Ages: 13+ (entering grade 9)

 Leader-in-Training Program

Do you know a high school student eager to develop valuable leadership skills, gain practical experience, and make a real difference this summer? Our revamped Leader-in-Training (LIT) program offers a unique, in-depth experience designed to transform aspiring young leaders into confident, capable, and compassionate camp counsellors.

As a bonus, participation in this program can be used as part of participants’ 40 hours of high school community service.

More Than Just a Summer Experience: A Foundation for Future Success

We believe that leading a group of campers is one of the most rewarding and impactful experiences a young person can have. Our LIT program goes beyond typical volunteer roles, providing a structured pathway to leadership, personal growth, and practical skills that will benefit participants for years to come. The LIT program is the first step to become a paid staff member at Capital Camps!

The LIT Experience: Where Learning Meets Leadership

Our program is carefully designed to blend essential theoretical knowledge with hands-on application.

Step 1: Leadership Foundations (Mandatory)

One-Day Leadership Course (Sunday June 7, 2026, from 9am-3pm)

The leadership journey begins with our One-Day Leadership Course. This mandatory, immersive workshop is held prior to the start of camp. It is the cornerstone of the program, where LITs will gain critical insights and practical tools, including:

  • Your Role at Camp: Why LIT’s are a vital role at camp and what you can expect on your first day.

  • The Camper Mindset: Learn why kids do what they do and how to lead with empathy.

  • The Art of Engagement: Master the secrets of group management and activity leading.

  • Safety & Protocols: Feel confident and prepared for any situation.

  • Resume & Interview Workshop: Learn how to translate your camp experience into marketable skills for college and future careers.

Lunch and Capital Camps uniform included!

Taught by members of Capital Camps Senior Leadership team and other subject matter experts. LITs will learn critical job skills in a fun, relaxed environment that they will be able to put into practice throughout the summer.

Step 2: Hands-On Mentorship (Your Choice of Weeks)

Once the course is completed, it’s time to put the training into action! LITs have the flexibility to customize their summer schedule. Participants can select between 1 and 3 weeks to join us on-site for real-world application. LITs can pick from the following camps to gain experience: Multi-Sports, Tennis, Cheer, Drama & Dance, Arts and Football.  During these weeks, LITs will:

  • Shadow & Learn: Work alongside a Senior Counsellor mentor.

  • Lead an Activity Block: Take the reins and plan activities for your assigned group.

  • Receive Daily Feedback: Participate in debriefs to sharpen your skills in real-time.

Investment in Your Future

We believe in making high-quality leadership training accessible. Our program uses an all-inclusive pricing model that covers the training day and all selected camp weeks.

The Value Advantage: Because our price is all-inclusive, the more LITs participate, the more savings! For example, if your teen completes 2 weeks of hands-on training, the total cost breaks down to less than $190 per week.

Who Should Apply?

This program is perfect for responsible, enthusiastic, and dedicated high school students (entering Grade 9 or above) who are ready to take the next step in their leadership journey.

All volunteers must be 13 (or completing grade 8), 14, or 15 years old in the calendar year in which they complete this volunteer course.

The LIT program is available at our Orleans locations, and also at our new Westboro location for 2026.

At the end of the experience every participant will walk away with:

  • Certificate of Leadership Completion

  • A "Ready-to-Work" Résumé: We help them draft a professional résumé featuring their camp leadership experience—written in high-level language—ready for job or university applications.

  • High School Community Service Hours: Formal validation of all volunteer hours served toward graduation requirements.

  • The LIT Leadership Handbook: A comprehensive personal playbook containing real-world scenario solutions and reflective journaling entries that track their growth throughout the summer.

Cost: $360

Spaces in our LIT program are limited to ensure personalized attention. Don't miss this opportunity to develop invaluable skills and create unforgettable summer memories.

After 2 years as a camper, this year I decided to enroll into Capital Camps’ Leader In Training program. I already knew how the camp worked and I didn’t think that being in LIT would be that different. By the end of 2 weeks, I learned so much about what it means to be a leader. I developed skills and made bonds with people in such a great and positive environment. I can honestly say that the LIT program made me a better person, and a better leader. The counselors are great and they make the time we spend at camp unforgettable.

- Sara - Camper / LIT

My son loved his time as a LIT at Capital Camps. He started out going for 1 week but enjoyed it so much and did so well he went for 5 weeks last summer! He learned a lot from Aaron and his team and actually wanted to wake up early on camp days!
