Junior Spring and Summer Tennis League / Box Ladder

A major problem facing junior tennis players is finding appropriate age and skilled partners to play against. To solve this problem we have created a box ladder system at our tennis club. Players will be placed in a “box” with 4 other players around their age and skill level and then will be given a 3 week period to play the other members of their box. At the end of the 3 week period the person with the most wins per box will move up a box and the person with the least wins per box will move down a box. The ladder will run from May 10th until August 23rd.

Cost: $40.00 (this includes a $20.00 membership to all 3 club locations)

Box Latter Rules and Procedures

The junior box ladder is open to any junior player aged 8 - 16 who enjoys competitive singles and who can commit to playing a minimum of 2 matches per 3 week period. Rules are outlined below:

    1. Five (5) players will be placed in each Box based upon Aaron Shaughnessy’s assessment of their ability. Boxes will be set up in descending order of assessed ability.

    2. You must play a MINIMUM of TWO (2) Ladder matches per 3 week period, otherwise you will be automatically relegated to the next lowest Box.

    3. At the end of the 3 week period, the Ladder Coordinator will calculate your average score from matches played. The top player with the most wins will be promoted to the next highest Box (if they are already in Box #1, they will stay there). The player with the least wins will be relegated to the next lowest Box unless there are players who did not meet the minimum of 2 matches played & they are automatically relegated.

    4. The Boxes will only be changed every 3 weeks.

    5. Arrange your own matches. If you are called to play a match, please arrange a convenient date & time as soon as possible.

    6. A match consists of ONE SET, with a 12 point tie-breaker @ 5 all. Limit your warm-up to 5 minutes.

    7. At the end of the match record the it is the winning player’s responsibility to report the scores to Aaron Shaughnessy via e-mail at: tenniscamp.ca@gmail.com.

    8. You may join the ladder at anytime by contacting the Aaron Shaughnessy, who will place you in an appropriate Box.

    9. To resolve any issues please contact the Aaron Shaughnessy or in his absence the Ladder Coordinator.

Period 2: May 31 – June 20

Period 3: June 21 – July 1

Period 4: July 12 – Aug 1
